Karam Si&#7749gh's brothers dying heirless, the estate passed on to his only son Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh. When in 1806 Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh took possession of the Do&#257b, Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh entered his service as an adjutant, soon becoming commandant. After the capture of Mult&#257n in 1818, he was promoted colonel and in this rank he took part in various actions that took place against the Af<u>gh</u>&#257ns in the Pesh&#257war valley. In 1826, he was given command of 3 infantry and 2 cavalry regiments with a troop of artillery. In 1839, he was promoted to the rank of general and in 1847 appointed governor of Pesh&#257war. During the second Anglo-Sikh war, General Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh and his son, Colonel &#256l&#257 Si&#7749gh, were kept under restraint by the Sikh troops for their sympathy with the British.
