After the defeat of the r&#257j&#257s, Gop&#257l seems to have sought peace and friendship with Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh. When Husain Kh&#257n was despatched in 1696 by Dil&#257war Kh&#257n, the Mughal chief, towards the hills to chastise the recalcitrant princes, R&#257j&#257 Gop&#257l, not being able to pay the heavy tribute levied upon him, prepared to fight. He was helped by his ally, R&#257j&#257 R&#257m Si&#7749gh of Jasv&#257n. Sa&#7749gat&#299&#257 and seven other Sikhs who had come as an embassy of peace to the court of R&#257j&#257 Gop&#257l also took part in the battle. In the fierce action (20 February 1696) that ensued, Husain Kh&#257n was slain and R&#257j&#257 Gop&#257l and his allies won a decisive victory. Sa&#7749gat&#299&#257 and his seven Sikhs fell fighting the Mughals. R&#257j&#257 Gop&#257l celebrated the triumph by making offerings to Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh and rendering him gratitude.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak

Kuir Si&#7749gh, Gurbil&#257s Patsh&#257h&#299 10.
