The Gur&#363 told them to sit in the sa&#7749gat and recite gurb&#257&#7751&#299. The Gur&#363 spoke: "Recitation of the sacred hymns cleanses the mind of sinful thought. To the listeners it gives comfort. Reflecting upon gurb&#257&#7751&#299 with no desire other than emancipation of the soul leads to gi&#257n or true knowledge. Ego is thus overcome. Knowledge of the Self annihilates the sense of duality, resulting in Bliss Eternal. Assemble, therefore, in the sa&#7749gat of the virtuous, recite gurb&#257&#7751&#299, reflect upon it, and earn release from worldly bondage." The four, writes Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, acted upon the Gur&#363's advice and attained liberation (V&#257r&#257&#7749 XI.18).

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, Bh&#257&#299, Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257.
