According to <i>M&#257lv&#257 Desh Ra&#7789an d&#299 S&#257kh&#299 Poth&#299</i>, a legend grew that whatever he casually uttered came to pass. After serving Bh&#257&#299 Gaur&#257, son of the celebrated Bh&#257&#299 Bhagat&#363 for some time, Goda&#7771&#299&#257 became a wandering <i>s&#257dh&#363</i>, a <i>goda&#7771&#299</i> and a <i>gandh&#257l&#257</i>, a spear-like digging tool, his only possessions, and his favourite pastime being the planting of shady trees. He met Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh at Bhuchcho, now in Ba&#7789hi&#7751&#7693&#257 district, in 1706 and became a disciple.
