Dh&#299r&#257, son of Jagmal, an ancestor of Gauhar Si&#7749gh, was the first of the family to migrate to Mehr&#257j-Ph&#363l area, in present-day Ba&#7789hi&#7751&#7693&#257 district, from Jaisalmer about the year 1580. About 1735 the family scattered; some of them settled in Jagr&#257o&#7749 area, whereas Gauhar Si&#7749gh and his brother Kaur Si&#7749gh moved on to the interior of the Punjab with twenty-five horsemen. They reached Amritsar, took <i>p&#257hul</i> or the vows of the <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 and entered the service of Gurba<u>kh</u>sh Si&#7749gh Ro&#7771&#257&#7749v&#257l&#257 of the Bha&#7749g&#299 <i>misl.</i> Gauhar Si&#7749gh became a disciple of B&#257v&#257 M&#363l D&#257s, an ascetic of great sanctity, and on the saint's direction settled at the site of present-day village of A&#7789&#257r&#299. There he built a big house on a mound which came to be called <i>a&#7789&#257r&#299</i> --- a tall house. From <i>a&#7789&#257r&#299</i> village as well as the family came to be known as A&#7789&#257r&#299. Gauhar Si&#7749gh served under the Bha&#7749g&#299 <i>sard&#257rs,</i> Gujjar Si&#7749gh and Lahi&#7751&#257 Si&#7749gh, after the death of Gurba<u>kh</u>sh Si&#7749gh Ro&#7771&#257&#7749v&#257l&#257. He died in 1763.
