Early in his career, he was assigned by Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh to Prince Sher Si&#7749gh's troops. Ga&#7751&#7693&#257 Si&#7749gh's father, Dharam Si&#7749gh, had also served in the army and taken part in several battles including those of Mult&#257n, Kashm&#299r and Pesh&#257war. Ga&#7751&#7693&#257 Si&#7749gh remained the favourite of Prince Sher Si&#7749gh who granted him a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> worth 3,000 rupees from his own estates. He fought in the Prince's Y&#363safza&#299 and Kull&#363 campaigns and held both civil and military appointments under him when he was the N&#257zim of Kashm&#299r. He afterwards served at Naushehr&#257 and Bann&#363. When Sher Si&#7749gh ascended the throne, he conferred upon Ga&#7751&#7693&#257 Si&#7749gh several <i>j&#257g&#299rs</i> around But&#257l&#257, and appointed him to the command of the Orderly &#7692er&#257.
