Jaimal Si&#7749gh was a Sandh&#363 Ja&#7789&#7789 and the first in the line to embrace the Sikh faith. He was a resident of K&#257l&#257 village in Amritsar district. In the troops of the Sukkarchakk&#299&#257 chiefs, Cha&#7771hat Si&#7749gh and Mah&#257&#7749 Si&#7749gh, he had fought against the Cha&#7789&#7789h&#257s inhabiting the northern part of Gujr&#257&#7749w&#257l&#257 district. In one of the skirmishes with the Cha&#7789&#7789h&#257s he lost both of his sons, Jai Si&#7749gh and Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh. Fateh Si&#7749gh entered the service of Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh in 1797, and rapidly rose in the favour of his master. He was a brave and skilful soldier and took part in almost every campaign undertaken by the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 during his early career. He fought against Ghul&#257m Muhammad Kh&#257n Cha&#7789&#7789h&#257 and against Jodh Si&#7749gh of Waz&#299r&#257b&#257d. He was with the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 at the time of the capture of the city of Lahore in 1799. He participated in the Kas&#363r (1801) and Jha&#7749g (1806) campaigns. Fateh Si&#7749gh conquered Chinio&#7789 from Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh Bha&#7749g&#299 and, when Jha&#7749g was taken in 1806 from Ahmad Kh&#257n Si&#257l, the district was leased to him. When towards the close of 1806, Qutb ud-D&#299n Kh&#257n of Kas&#363r raised the banner of revolt, Fateh Si&#7749gh K&#257li&#257&#7749v&#257l&#257 was sent against him. In 1807, Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh, after a visit to Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257, besieged the fort of Narai&#7751ga&#7771h held by Sard&#257r Kishan Si&#7749gh. Fateh Si&#7749gh, who was in immediate command, assaulted the fort, but was repulsed and mortally wounded.
