In 1834, he accompanied Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh to Pesh&#257war and, in 1840, he was sent, under Arjan Si&#7749gh Ra&#7749gha&#7771 Na&#7749gl&#299&#257, to Ma&#7751&#7693&#299 and Kull&#363 where a rebellion had broken out. After the death of R&#257j&#257 H&#299r&#257 Si&#7749gh in December 1844, Fateh Si&#7749gh was ordered to R&#257jaur&#299 and Pu&#7751chh to put down an insurrection there. During the first Anglo-Sikh war (1845-46), Fateh Si&#7749gh remained in Lahore with General Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh Pah&#363vi&#7751&#7693&#299&#257 assigned to protecting the minor Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Duleep Si&#7749gh. Soon after the war, he was appointed commandant of the S&#363raj Mukh&#299 corps. In 1847, he accompanied Lieut. Herbert Edwardes to Bann&#363, and served throughout the Mult&#257n campaign of 1848.
