He had strained relations with R&#257j&#257 Medin&#299 Prak&#257sh of Sirm&#363r. When Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh made P&#257o&#7751&#7789&#257 his headquarters in April 1685 at the invitation of the latter, he brought about reconciliation between Fateh Sh&#257h and the Sirm&#363r chief. According to Sikh chroniclers, Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh sent presents through his d&#299w&#257n, Nand Chand, to R&#257j&#257 Fateh Sh&#257h on the occasion of the marriage of his daughter to Ajmer Chand, son of R&#257j&#257 Bh&#299m Chand of Kahl&#363r. Bh&#299m Chand, who resented the cordiality which existed between Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh and Fateh Sh&#257h, urged the Sr&#299nagar ruler not to accept the presents sent by the Gur&#363. He also urged him to join hands with him in waging war upon the Gur&#363. Fateh Sh&#257h obliged him by joining the attacking host against the Gur&#363 in the battle of Bha&#7749g&#257&#7751&#299 fought on 18 September 1688, 10 km northeast of P&#257o&#7751&#7789&#257. For the Gur&#363 it was a mystery why he should have done so: in the Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak he said that R&#257j&#257 Fateh Sh&#257h "raged and fought with me purposelessly." R&#257j&#257 Fateh Sh&#257h's later years were occupied in contest with the rulers of Kum&#257o&#7749. He died in 1716.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Sukh&#257 Singh, Gurbil&#257s Dasv&#299&#7749 P&#257tsh&#257h&#299.
