<p class="C1">&#65279D&#298P&#256, BH&#256&#298, a Ja&#7789&#7789 of De&#363 clan, once came along with Bh&#257&#299 Nar&#257i&#7751 D&#257s and Bh&#257&#299 B&#363l&#257 to Gur&#363 A&#7749gad (1504-52) and begged to be instructed how they could have themselves released from the cycle of birth and death. The Gur&#363, according to Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, <i>Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257</i>, told them to follow the <i>bhakt&#299 m&#257rga</i>, path of devotional love of God, to the exclusion of the paths of <i>bair&#257g</i> (renunciation), <i>yog&#257</i> (austerities) and <i>gi&#257n</i> (knowledge). <i>Bhakt&#299</i>, he explained, involved complete self-surrender to the Will of the Lord.</p>
