<p class="C1">&#65279&#7692HER&#256 SI&#7748GH, BH&#256&#298 (1890-1921), was born on 29 August 1890, the son of Bh&#257&#299 Jaimal Si&#7749gh and M&#257&#299 J&#299van Kaur, a peasant couple of Pa&#7751&#7693or&#299 Nijjar&#257&#7749, in Jalandhar district. On the opening of the Lower Chen&#257b Canal Colony in West Punjab, the family settled in Chakk No. 91 Dhann&#363&#257&#7751&#257 in Lyallpur district. &#7692her&#257 Si&#7749gh, though illiterate, was an anointed Si&#7749gh. He never married and led a simple life of honest hard labour until his martyrdom as a member of the <i>jath&#257</i> that was massacred in the walled compound of Gurdw&#257r&#257 Janam Asth&#257n at Nank&#257&#7751&#257 S&#257hib on the morning of 20 February 1921.</p>
