In 1807, Jam&#257dar <u>Kh</u>ush&#257l Si&#7749gh, who had come to Lahore to seek his fortune and had eventually risen to the position of <i>&#7693eoh&#7771&#299d&#257r</i> or chamberlain, was placed under Dhau&#7749kal Si&#7749gh. In 1828-29, when the Lahore army was reorganized, Dhau&#7749kal Si&#7749gh was given command of a regiment composed mainly of P&#363rbi&#257 deserters from the East India Company and a few Sikhs. Subsequently, he was promoted general who took an important part in the military administration of Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh. As a regimental commander in the Sikh army, Dhau&#7749kal Si&#7749gh participated in various military campaigns - K&#257&#7749g&#7771&#257 (1809), A&#7789&#7789ock (1813), Mult&#257n (1818), Kashm&#299r (1819), and &#7692er&#257 Ism&#257'&#299l <u>Kh</u>&#257n (1820). From 1830 to 1833, he was active in operations in the Pesh&#257war valley. Dhau&#7749kal Si&#7749gh's troops were stationed at Haz&#257r&#257 in 1844 when he was ordered to move to Muzaffar&#257b&#257d to reduce the rebels who had risen in support of <u>Gh</u>ul&#257m Moh&#299 ud-D&#299n, the governor of Kashm&#299r.
