It marks the site of a village called Pa&#7789&#7789hevi&#7751&#7693 where Gur&#363 N&#257nak's ancestors had lived. Gur&#363 N&#257nak himself often visited the village. An old well within the Gurdw&#257r&#257 compound is said to be the one near which he had once stopped. The shrine was first established by Gur&#363 Hargobind (1595-1644), who also had the nearby pond converted into a sarovar or holy tank. The construction of the present complex, including the renovation of the sarovar, was carried out by Sant Gurmukh Si&#7749gh Sev&#257v&#257le (1849-1947). Situated inside a high-walled enclosure, the Gurdw&#257r&#257 comprises a high-ceilinged d&#299v&#257n hall with the domed sanctum at one end and a marbled terrace in front. It is administered by the Shiroma&#7751&#299 Gurdw&#257r&#257 Parbandhak Committee through a local committee. Besides the celebration of major Sikh anniversaries, a three-day fair is held to mark the festival of M&#257gh&#299, the first of the Bikram&#299 month of M&#257gh (mid-January).

Gurnek Si&#7749gh
