He received the Ja&#7771aul&#299 area as his share of the spoils after the sack of Sirhind in January 1764. He retained ten villages for himself and made over the rest to his deputies. Returning to Amritsar, he held charge of the Shah&#299d Bu&#7749g&#257 for many years. He acquired considerable territory on either side of the River R&#257v&#299, and was considered one of the most powerful <i>sard&#257rs</i> of his day. He placed his younger son, Mohar Si&#7749gh, in charge of the village of Ja&#7771aul&#299, while Karam Si&#7749gh the elder, subsequently succeeded to the family estates north of the Sutlej.
