They said, "O beneficent one, we have long desired to seek your precept. In our official capacity as village chaudhar&#299s, we commit many wrongs and utter many falsehoods. Be pleased to tell us how we can be saved. " The Gur&#363 answered, "The remedy is simple; discard falsehood, anger and pride. " At this Pur&#299&#257 argued, "But, Sir, as chaudhar&#299s we have so often to tell lies. " Gur&#363 Arjan said, "Establish a dharams&#257l, or place of religious congregation in your village; attend it morning and evening; and get whatever falsehood you utter or wrongs you commit during the day recorded there in the evening. Record also your good deeds. " Ch&#363ha&#7771 and Pur&#299&#257 obeyed. They felt ashamed as they made their confessions to the sa&#7749gat every evening. Gradually they got rid of their habit of lying. Listening to the Gur&#363s' hymns morning and evening they became pious and devoted Sikhs.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, Bh&#257&#299, Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257.
