His parents originally belonged to village Baho&#7771&#363 in Amritsar district and had settled in the newly developed canal colony in western Punjab, Chakk No. 80, only in 1892. B&#363&#7771 Si&#7749gh received elementary education in the village school and <i>gurdw&#257r&#257</i>. He was present at Ch&#363ha&#7771k&#257&#7751&#257 on 30 December 1920 when Gurdw&#257r&#257 Sachch&#257 Saud&#257 was taken over from Ud&#257s&#299 <i>mahants</i> and brought under the management of the reformist. Ak&#257l&#299s by <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 D&#299w&#257n Khar&#257 Saud&#257 B&#257r under the leadership of Jathed&#257r Kart&#257r Si&#7749gh Jhabbar. B&#363&#7771 Si&#7749gh took the <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 <i>p&#257hul</i> on the spot and became an Ak&#257l&#299 activist.
