<p class="C1">&#65279BRIJ R&#256J (d. 1833), a learned Pa&#7751&#7693it came to settle in Lahore in the latter half of the eighteenth century, was appointed by Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh to the position of <i>r&#257jpurohit</i>, or royal priest, which office he held till his death in 1833. The Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 and the court <i>sard&#257rs</i> used to consult him on astrological matters. Pa&#7751&#7693it Brij R&#257j also held appointment as almoner in the Dharamarath department of Sark&#257r <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257. He had the village of Qil&#257 Gujjar Si&#7749gh given him in <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> by the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257.</p>
