" The Punjabi verb <i>b&#299&#7771an&#257</i> which means "to fix, bind or fasten (something) firmly, or to lay (a gun)" is from the same root. Gur&#363 Arjan having compiled the Holy Book deputed one of his leading disciples, Bh&#257&#299 Banno, to go and get the volume bound in Lahore, perhaps because facilities for proper binding did not then exist at Amritsar. Bh&#257&#299 Banno utilized the opportunity to have another copy transcribed and he got both volumes "fastened and bound. " These bound copies came to be called the &#256di B&#299&#7771 and Bh&#257&#299 Bannov&#257l&#299 B&#299&#7771. Further copies made from these two recensions were also called <i>b&#299&#7771s</i>.
