He had one hundred soldiers under his command, but he crossed over to the hill r&#257j&#257s on the eve of the battle of Bha&#7749g&#257&#7751&#299 (AD 1688). According to Bh&#257&#299 Santokh Si&#7749gh, Sr&#299 Gur Prat&#257p S&#363raj Granth, Bh&#299khan Kh&#257n told the Pa&#7789h&#257ns in the employ of Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh that the Gur&#363 was mainly dependant on them and that the rest of his army was only a miscellaneous rabble who would run away when they heard the first shot fired. He suggested that they could save their lives by taking the side of the hillmen. They would fight in the rear of the hill armies and would obtain from the hill chiefs permission to plunder the Gur&#363's wealth. The Pa&#7789h&#257ns applauded Bh&#299khan Kh&#257n's advice and joined the hill r&#257j&#257s against Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh. When Buddh&#363 Sh&#257h learnt how the Pa&#7789h&#257n soldiers had reneged, he came forward with his four sons and seven hundred disciples to assist the Gur&#363. Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh says in his Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak that as he saw Sh&#257h Sa&#7749gr&#257m (Sa&#7749go Sh&#257h), a cousin of his, fall in the battle of Bha&#7749g&#257&#7751&#299, he took up his bow and arrows. With the first arrow, he struck a Kh&#257n who fell to the ground. He then drew out another one and aimed at Bh&#299khan Kh&#257n, hitting him in the face. Leaving his horse, the bleeding Kh&#257n fled, but was killed by another arrow from the Gur&#363's bow.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak

Santokh Si&#7749gh, Bh&#257&#299, Sr&#299 Gur Prat&#257p S&#363raj Granth.
