The tradition relates that once while Gur&#363 N&#257nak was staying with Bh&#257&#299 L&#257lo, a poor carpenter, in the town, Malik Bh&#257go gave a feast to which Gur&#363 N&#257nak, along with other holy men and dignitaries, was invited. As the Gur&#363 declined the invitation, the Malik had him summoned to his presence and asked the reason for his refusal. Gur&#363 N&#257nak took into one hand a quantity of Malik Bh&#257go's rich food and in the other a piece of L&#257lo's coarse bread. He then squeezed both. From L&#257lo's bread trickled milk, and from Malik Bh&#257go's blood. The moral was clear. The rich man's wealth had been selfishly amassed at the cost of others and his charities were thus tainted, whereas Bh&#257&#299 L&#257lo's simple bread earned by honest labour was holy.

        See L&#256LO, BH&#256&#298

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Kohl&#299, Surindar Si&#7749gh, Janams&#257kh&#299 Bh&#257&#299 B&#257l&#257, Chandigarh, 1975

Kirp&#257l Si&#7749gh, Janam S&#257kh&#299 Prampar&#257.
