In the beginning of 1838 when R&#257i Kishan Chand accompanied Colonel Wade to Pesh&#257war, Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh officiated in his place as agent at Ludhi&#257&#7751&#257, in the British territory. After the first Anglo-Sikh war (1845-46), Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh took over as agent of the Lahore Darb&#257r with the Commissioner of trans-Sutlej states; in 1848 he was awarded the title of R&#257i and a dress of honour. R&#257i Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh also received a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> worth Rupees 2, 500. The <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> was resumed when the Punjab was annexed by the British in 1849. R&#257i Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh was employed a <i>tahs&#299ld&#257r</i> by the British government for some time. He was a provincial Darb&#257r&#299 and remained an honorary magistrate of Ba&#7789&#257l&#257 for 17 years. He was also the first president of the Ba&#7789&#257l&#257 municipality. He refused appointment as extra assistant commissioner offered to him by Sir John Lawrence, then the Lt Governor of the Punjab.
