Its author, R&#257m Sukh R&#257o, was tutor to Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh's son and successor, Fateh Si&#7749gh &#256hl&#363v&#257l&#299&#257 (1784-1836). The latter, after his accession in 1801, commissioned R&#257m Sukh R&#257o to write biographies of Sard&#257r Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh and Sard&#257r Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh. Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh Chandra Uday&#257, a biography of the latter, comprises 188 folios, size 22 x 16 cm, each page containing 16 lines. The first 107 folios cover events of the life of Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh, and the rest deal with the rule of Bh&#257g Si&#7749gh ending with his death in 1801. The language of the manuscript is a mixture of Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi and Persian, but the script is Gurmukh&#299. R&#257m Sukh R&#257o is also the author of a book devoted to the life of Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh. That also is an unpublished manuscript under the title Sr&#299 Jass&#257 Si&#7749gh Binod, preserved in the Punjab State Archives, Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257.

B. S.
