He went to the village primary school, and joined the army serving in the 55th Sikh Battalion for about three years. While in the army he came in contact with Babar Ak&#257l&#299s, whose creed of violence appealed to him. After his meeting with Jathed&#257r Kishan Si&#7749gh Ga&#7771gajj and B&#257b&#363 Sant&#257 Si&#7749gh on 16 February 1923, he resigned from the army and became a member of the action group of the Babar Ak&#257l&#299 Jath&#257. He was party to the Jamsher railway station dacoity (3 March 1923), to the murder of B&#363&#7789&#257 <i>lamba&#7771d&#257r</i> of Na&#7749gal Sh&#257m&#257&#7749 (11 March), and of Jav&#257l&#257 Si&#7749gh, a notorious money-lender of Ko&#7789l&#299 B&#257v&#257d&#257s (13 November), and in the second murderous attempt on the lives of K&#257bul Si&#7749gh and his father-in-law, L&#257bh Si&#7749gh, who had got Kishan Si&#7749gh Ga&#7771gajj arrested on 26 February 1923.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On 12 December 1923 Jagat Si&#7749gh, of Mu&#7751&#7693er village, in Jalandhar district, connived with the police for trapping Bant&#257 Si&#7749gh, Vary&#257m Si&#7749gh Dhugg&#257 and Jav&#257l&#257 Si&#7749gh of Fatehpur Ko&#7789h&#299 in a <i>chaub&#257r&#257</i> (room on the first floor) in his village. The police operations were personally supervised by W. W. Jacob, the deputy commissioner of Jalandhar, upon whose orders the <i>chaub&#257r&#257</i> was at last set afire.
