After the failure of the design to rescue Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Duleep Si&#7749gh from British hands, Bh&#257&#299 Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh planned a general uprising and sent out emissaries to prepare the people for it. It was at the persuasion of Bah&#257dur Si&#7749gh who had been assigned to Jalandhar Do&#257b that Bh&#257&#299 Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh shifted his headquarters to the Do&#257b&#257.
