His father L&#257l Si&#7749gh, who had migrated from Jamm&#363, held sway in the tract between Shei<u>kh</u>&#363pur&#257 and Mir&#257liv&#257l&#257 as the Sikh <i>sard&#257rs</i> started acquiring territory in the Punjab in the latter half of the eighteenth century. He was considered an influential chief in the vicinity of Lahore when Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh occupied the city in 1799. He accepted the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257's sovereignty and was appointed to command a unit of the army with a grant of <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> amounting to one and a half lakh of rupees, consisting of eighty-four villages, in the neighbourhood of Ka&#7771i&#257l Kal&#257&#7749 and B&#257gh Si&#7749gh died in 1806, his son, Jodh Si&#7749gh, succeeding him in the command he held.
