When Pesh&#257war was occupied by the Sikhs in 1834, Bachittar Si&#7749gh was sent to Shabqadar, where a new cantonment had been laid out and a fort built by Chatar Si&#7749gh A&#7789&#257r&#299v&#257l&#257. He was still there when, in April 1837, the Af<u>gh</u>&#257n army attacked the post and the fort of Jamr&#363d. In January 1839, Bachittar Si&#7749gh accompanied the Sikh forces escorting Sh&#257hz&#257d&#257 Taim&#363r, son of Sh&#257h Shuj&#257', to Pesh&#257war.
