<p class="C1">&#65279ARJAN SI&#7748GH TH&#256P&#256 was the son of the Gurkh&#257 general, Amar Si&#7749gh Th&#257p&#257, who had advanced his conquests up to K&#257&#7749g&#7771&#257 in the early years of the nineteenth century. Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh expelled him from the K&#257&#7749g&#7771&#257 hills, but the Gurkh&#257s had fought so bravely that he decided to raise a Gurkh&#257 regiment. Arjan Si&#7749gh recruited Gurkh&#257s for the army of the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 who gave him the rank of a captain in that regiment.</p>
