In 1809, Anand Si&#7749gh was appointed an agent of the Sikh Darb&#257r at Ludhi&#257&#7751&#257, the British military station and political agency. He was later sent as the Darb&#257r's envoy to the British resident at Delhi. He had a good knowledge of Persian and English and accompanied Sir Charles Metcalfe on the successful expedition against Bharatpur undertaken by Lord Combermere in January 1826, receiving on his return from Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh the title of R&#257i with a robe of honour.
