During the prime ministership of H&#299r&#257 Si&#7749gh, Amar N&#257th was assigned to the task of settling the accounts of government studs and stables. The town duties of Lahore and Amritsar were also leased out through him. H&#299r&#257 Si&#7749gh reposed great trust in Amar N&#257th who became an intermediary between him and his uncle, R&#257j&#257 Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh, when the two had fallen out. Owing to strained relations with his father, Amar N&#257th had to quit his government post during the first Anglo-Sikh war. But, being a man of letters, he continued enjoying an annual pension of 1, 200 rupees, which was raised to 4, 000 rupees after the death of his father in 1857. Besides some poetry, Amar N&#257th wrote the Zafar N&#257mah-i-Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh , a chronicle, in Persian, of the reign of Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh up to 1835-36. The work was edited by S&#299t&#257 R&#257m Kohl&#299 and published in 1928.

Amar N&#257th died in 1867, his elder son, D&#299w&#257n R&#257m N&#257th, succeeding him in his j&#257g&#299r.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

S&#363r&#299, Sohan L&#257l, 'Umd&#257t-ut-Tw&#257r&#299kh.
