According to Sikh chroniclers, the R&#257jp&#363ts of &#256ls&#363n were the subjects of R&#257j&#257 Bh&#299m Chand of Kahl&#363r and were therefore inimical towards Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh. They did not welcome the Gur&#363 and his Sikhs and were chastised by D&#299w&#257n Nand Chand under orders from the Gur&#363.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The village of &#256ls&#363n is no longer extant. A modern researcher, Nariñjan Si&#7749gh S&#257th&#299, has identified the site as present-day village of Sam&#257l&#7771&#257, in Ba&#7749g&#257&#7751&#257 sub-division of &#362n&#257 district, on the basis of local tradition.
